About the Program

First 30×30 Canada is a N4J initiative in collaboration with IISAAK OLAM Foundation and Nature Focus Development that supports Indigenous governments to develop Indigenous-led NbS and forest carbon projects. The program focuses on Improved Forest Management (IFM) and other NbS approaches that can generate long-term revenue to support climate, biodiversity, and community benefits. Over the next 5 years, First 30×30 aims to:

  • Complete 25 project pre-feasibility studies,
  • Complete 10 project full feasibility studies, in partnership with Indigenous governments in Canada,
  • Match 5 proposed projects to aligned investors, and
  • Launch 3 new Indigenous-led NbS / carbon projects.

 

First 30×30 Canada is a new and fast-growing mission-first program. We are seeking a highly organized and proactive professional who enjoys managing complex projects and working collaboratively in a mission-driven environment.

About the Role

The Forest Carbon Technical Project Manager will play a leading role in managing the technical delivery for the Indigenous-led NbS projects the program supports. This person will work closely with N4J program teams and consultants, local partner organizations and Indigenous government clients.

Key Responsibilities

Farmer Engagement & Outreach

  • Lead technical delivery for Indigenous-led forest carbon and NbS projects
  • Manage technical consultants (forest carbon modelers, GIS analysts, financial modelers, protocol experts, etc.)
  • Coordinate project planning, budgets, and deliverables
  • Support engagement with Indigenous governments and partners
  • Provide technical guidance on IFM carbon project feasibility and development
  • Monitor developments in carbon markets and protocols
  • Support impact tracking and program reporting
  • Contribute technical inputs to funding proposals and partnerships

Working Conditions, Travel & the Environment

  • The role is remote within Canada (preference for candidates based in British Columbia)
  • Employment type: Full-time or 0.75–1.0 FTE (30–40 hours/week)
  • Travel approximately 10–20% of the time, primarily within Canada with occasional travel to the United States
  • Full-time equivalent salary: $85,000 – $185,000 CAD – depending on experience
  • Alternatively hourly consulting rate: $40 – $90/hr CAD

Required Qualifications, Skills & Experience

Required qualifications, skills and experience for the role include:

  • Bachelor’s degree in forestry, natural resource management, environmental science, or related field
  • 3+ years’ experience in forestry, carbon markets, conservation, or related sectors
  • Strong project management experience
  • Experience managing consultants or interdisciplinary teams
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Candidates

Preferred candidates will have:

  • Experience with the forestry sector in British Columbia, Canada
  • Experience with forest carbon project development (IFM strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with carbon protocols (ACR, Verra, CAR, etc.)
  • Experience working with Indigenous governments or Indigenous-led conservation initiatives
  • GIS or spatial analysis experience
  • Experience preparing carbon project design documents (PDDs)
